London Metropolitan University (2002 to present)
London Metropolitan University was formed by the merger of the University of North London with London Guildhall University on 1st August 2002. It operates over 2 campuses: ‘North Campus’, based on the Holloway Road in Islington, and ‘Aldgate Campus’, in the Aldgate/Whitechapel area of London.
As of 2023, the constituent academic Schools were as follows:Based at Holloway Campus:
• The Guildhall School of Business and Law
• The School of Computing and Digital Media
• The School of Human Sciences
• The School of Social Sciences and Professions
• The School of the Built Environment
Based at the Aldgate Campus:
• The School of Art, Architecture and Design
In 2021, The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide placed the University at position 6 in the national league table for teaching quality.
The University also has been widely recognised for its sustainability improvements. In December 2021, it was recognised by the People and Planet Sustainability League Table as the university that has made the largest reduction in carbon emissions out of all UK universities, having reduced its carbon emissions by 80% since 2005-06.
Notable recipients of honorary degrees include Zandra Rhodes (fashion designer; 2003), Daniel Libeskind (architect; 2004), Carlos Acosta (ballet dancer; 2006), Tracey Emin, RA (artist; 2007).
Vice Chancellors include Prof Roderick Floud (2002-2003); Brian Roper (2003-2009); Alfred Morris (Interim, 2009-2010); Prof Malcolm Gillies (2010-2014); Prof John Raftery (2015-2018); and Prof Lynn Dobbs (2018 to date).
