Rare books and printed material
To accompany the archives in our Special Collections we hold an extensive reference library of rare books, journals and pamphlets that compliment courses currently taught at London Metropolitan University, and which provide a wider context to their subject areas.
To support research of The Archive of Irish in Britain, for example, we hold a number of titles that provide an introduction to Irish history.
What we hold
Our library includes Journals, Artists' Books, Pamphlets and Books (Fiction and Non-Fiction). Some of these publications can be found among collections like the Trade Union Congress Library collections and The Archive of Irish in Britain. Much of this constitutes primary sources, in that they capture testimony and research first-hand.
How to Access
Books and publications from our library can be browsed on the shelf in our reading room, but those not on open access will need to be fetched from a secure area. To discover what is available you will need to search two catalogues:
Selected titles from the Special Collections can be found by searching the main Classic Library catalogue. Search by Keywords in Special Collections or TUC Library Collections.
We would also recommend searching our digitised card catalogue to cover a large portion of the TUC Library’s older publications.
Themed Lists
To help you search our library, we have created themed lists of relevant material:
